Scoring off the Field

by Naima Simone
WAGS, #2
Publication Date: March 12, 2018
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Brazen, Contemporary, Romance, Sports Romance, Standalone

Tennyson Clark is getting a life. First step: quitting her job as assistant to Dominic Anderson, star quarterback for the Washington Warriors, her best friend … and the man she’s been secretly in love with for years. But since the gorgeous, if overprotective playboy has only ever seen her as his BFF, she’s finally ready to relinquish her tattered fantasy and move on. Enter steps two and three: new job and new man.

Football is Dominic’s life, and with his contract soon up for renewal, all his focus needs to be on the game. But Tennyson—dependable, logical Tennyson— is making that next to impossible with her mysterious new job and her sudden interest in online dating. He doesn’t do relationships. But the thought of another man touching her sexier-than-hell curves has him suddenly wanting more from his best friend.

Indulging in hot, dirty, what’s-my-name sex with no strings and lots of benefits is simple, uncomplicated…until it’s not.

Tennyson is #goals, and this cover is damn fine.

I have to say that I haven’t been this excited about discovering a new author in a while, but Naima Simone has become a one-click author for me. I read and loved the first book in the WAGS series, so picking up Scoring off the Field was automatic for me. I loved this one.

Often, having someone in your life who loved, protected, and knew you better than anyone else on the planet was a comfort and gift. Then other times, it sucked hairy ape balls.

Tennyson Clark has been in love with her best friend for years, but she has been firmly planted in the friend zone. It’s time for a change. First step? Not to be the man’s personal assistant. But her employer slash best friend slash sexy football quarterback, Dominic Anderson, isn’t quite ready to let her go…or to start seeing Tennyson as something more.

Instant. Love.

I adored Tennyson. She has this engaging persona that leaps right off the page, and you can’t help but want this woman as your best friend. She has always kinda let her superstar football player/best friend, Dom, take care of her, and she has reached a point where she wants more than Dom can give her.

No one puts Tenny in a corner, ya’ll!

“You’re not an asshole. You’re an ass-a-hole.”
His crack of laughter bounced off the walls of his pristine kitchen. “Is that a new vocab word?”
“Yes.”… “It’s a noun. Definition. When someone is so much of an asshole, they need another syllable.”

The humor was on point and rip-roaringly funny, and you could feel the crackle of chemistry in the air. Even with them being friends you know the inevitable pull is coming and will be downright explosive. I will say that Dom hella frustrated me, but he is also so incredibly sweet and protective where Tennyson is concerned.

I love when a big man falls, and all I can say is…tiimmmbeeerrr.

Part of her wondered why she even carried a torch for him. If by some chance pigs sprouted wings and unicorn horns, and he looked at her with lust instead of brotherly affection, she’d probably faint in maidenly horror at her first sight of his dick.

Naima’s writing style is so engaging and down-to-earth, and I just connected with these two, with this situation. This is friends-to-lovers at its best, and if you’re looking for the chemistry to come right off the page and punch you in the face, I guarantee you’ll enjoy every scintillating moment of it!

5 stars!

USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— writing sizzling romances with a touch of humor and snark.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
