The reluctant manager of his family’s restaurant, Frankie attempts to live up to the legacy of his father and grandfather. Running a business that isn’t his passion and trying to do it without asking for help leaves him turning to less-than-legal means when he wants to surrender control.
Newly divorced, Calvin no longer lives in the closet, leaving him searching for what he most desires- control. So when he finds Frankie on his knees in the back room of a local bar, Calvin sees the sub he’s only ever fantasized about having.
Can Calvin find the confidence to explore his dominant side while showing his younger roommate that submission isn’t only about whips and pain?
Exploration by Quinn Ward is a May/Dec romance with a bit of kink, a bit of laughter, and plenty of self-discovery.
Frankie has stress coming out of his eyeballs, and the power exchange in the backroom of a bar helps him let loose a little. When his older roommate catches him in the act, however, it opens up a space that Frankie just might want to fill. On his knees in front of Calvin.
Calvin knows what he wants. It just all comes a lot clearer with Frankie, in particular. Cal wants to explore his dominant side and there’s something about Frankie that has Cal thinking their needs align. They have to navigate this side of themselves and what it means for them together. But there’s more than just age difference keeping them apart, too.
This was relatively light on the BDSM so if you’re looking for a heavier aspect keep in mind that that isn’t what this book is about. I loved Cal and Frankie together. Watching their personal journeys mesh just gives that extra heart tug that I look for.
Some parts felt a bit rushed, however. Cal also shamed Frankie early in the story for Frankie’s particular kink. I wanted Cal to realize what he did, but it seems to be forgotten. The extra side plot takes away from the one-on-one time for these two later on as well.
Overall, a great start to this series. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next one.

Quinn writes LGBTQ romance with a kick. Their stories center around the relationship building between the characters, but also shows how compatible they are in the bedroom (or wherever else the urge strikes).
